Thigh Lift
Overview
The natural aging process, reduction in skin elasticity, and gravity, combined with the effects of rapid weight loss, can contribute to excess skin and reduction of tone in the thighs. This loose skin may be prone to rashes, prevent clothing from fitting properly, cause general discomfort, and make a person feel self-conscious when wearing shorts. A thigh lift is a surgical technique for tightening and improving the shape of the legs. It may be performed alone, or it may be combined with other body shaping procedures.
The procedure
A thigh lift is tailored to the needs of each patient, and the procedure will vary depending on the amount of skin and fat that is to be removed. When the problem area is confined to the inner thigh, with moderate fat deposits and excess skin, your surgeon may perform a medial thigh lift. In this case, the incision is only in the groin area, and very well disguised. The more skin laxity there is, the greater the size of the incision. In rare cases, the incision may extend around the leg (circumferential thigh lift), if laxity and excess skin are severe.
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia, and it is an outpatient procedure. Anesthesia is always administered by an anesthesiologist, who has proper board certification. The surgery takes between three and six hours, depending on the type of procedure and the extent of the skin laxity. When it is complete, you can relax in our office until you are alert enough to return home. You will be provided with a compression garment, to facilitate proper healing and optimize results. There will be one or more drain tubes to prevent fluid accumulation.
Results
You can look forward to a slimmer, more attractive appearance, and your clothing fitting better. Our patients are generally very happy with their firm, shapely thighs, and they are often excited at the prospect of wearing clothing that they once felt uncomfortable in. Additionally, patients often notice that future weight fluctuations do not lead to the disproportionate fat accumulation in the legs that they experienced prior to surgery.
