Liposuction
Overview
Liposuction, available at our Orange County practice, is a minimally invasive procedure that can remove stubborn pockets of fat that are not improved by diet and exercise. The procedure is most frequently recommended for individuals who have fat deposits that make specific areas look disproportionately large as compared to the rest of the body. Liposuction is appropriate for women and men, and it can be used on the face, neck, abdomen, or other areas of the body.
Tumescent liposuction is a two-step process, including infusion with tumescent fluid, which contains a long-lasting local anesthetic to minimize post-procedure discomfort. It also contains a vasoconstrictor, which reduces bruising and bleeding. After this formula has been injected, the excess fat cells are removed using liposuction.
The procedure
Liposuction usually takes between 45 and 90 minutes for each area being treated. Local anesthesia is sufficient for the treatment of regions such as the outer thighs or hips. General anesthesia will be used during treatment of areas such as the arms, back, inner thigh, and abdomen. We only work with skilled, board-certified anesthesiologists, to ensure optimal comfort and safety for our patients.
Following the procedure, you will remain in the office for about one hour until you regain alertness. You will be provided with a supportive garment for the treatment area, and advised to continue wearing it for several weeks. We use self-dissolving sutures, which should come off in approximately two weeks.
Results
Most patients are very pleased with their new shape. You will notice your profile is slimmer, and your clothing fits more comfortably. You should be able to keep your new contour permanently as long as your weight remains stable. Most patients also notice that if weight changes do occur, the treated area does not become disproportionately large again.
