Patients in Orange County learn the benefits of chemical peels
One of the least invasive ways to improve the appearance of the skin is a chemical peel. A chemical peel is also called derma peeling or chemexfoliation. Regardless of the name of the procedure, patients often rave about the results. Dr. Thuan Nguyen, a well-respected plastic surgeon at Orange County Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery Center in Orange County is happy to explain the benefits of chemical peels. They include a rejuvenated appearance, renewed self-confidence, and improved skin texture and tone.
The natural process of aging, sun exposure, and acne can leave the skin wrinkled, uneven, spotted, or scarred. During a chemical peel treatment, a chemical solution is applied, which improves the texture of the skin by removing damaged outer layers. Chemical peels are common on the face; however, they can be used to improve the skin on the neck and hands. We can improve the appearance of sun spots, scars, irregular skin pigmentation, freckles, sun-damaged skin, rough skin, and scaly patches.
We do not use chemical peels to treat deep facial lines, remove broken capillaries, tighten loose or sagging skin, change pore size or remove deep scars. We are happy to explore other treatments for these types of concerns. Many people are candidates for chemical peels; however, some will need to explore alternative treatments. If patients have facial warts, abnormal pigmentation, a history of abnormal skin scarring, Asian or Afro-Caribbean skin, or red hair and pale freckled skin, they may not be the best candidates for chemical peels. Certain acne treatments used within the last year may also contraindicate chemical peel treatment.
There are three types of chemical peels - light, medium, and deep. Light chemical peels offer subtle improvements at first, but deliver a healthy, rejuvenated appearance after several treatments. Medium chemical peels deliver a noticeably smoother and fresher looking appearance. A deep chemical peel can deliver dramatic results. Downtime required is determined by the type of chemical peel treatment.
