Cheek Reduction
Overview
The cheekbones are an integral part of the facial structure, and play an important role in shaping the face. Caucasian patients often request cheek implants, to correct a lack of definition, and many plastic surgeons are familiar with the procedure. However, that is rarely a problem for the Asian patient, as classic facial features include well-defined cheeks. In fact, many Asians have overly predominant cheekbones. Dr. Nguyen is experienced in Asian cosmetic surgery, and he has effective techniques for reducing and sculpting the cheeks.
It is important to choose a surgeon who has skills and experience in treating Asian patients, as the unique structures of an ethnic face call for different techniques than those of a western face. Additionally, it takes precision and artisan skill to enhance facial features without compromising the patient's ethnic identity or natural beauty. Each face is different, depending on the person's ethnicity and unique individual features. The ideal shape and proportions of the Asian face differs from those of the Caucasian face, just as the ideal feminine face differs from the ideal masculine face.
Procedure
A board certified anesthesiologist will administer general anesthesia before the procedure begins. The surgery is usually performed using incisions in the inside of the oral cavity, or along the hairline. The surgeon works through the incision to access the cheekbone and sculpt it by shaving a small amount of bone. You will need to remain in the office for approximately 60 minutes after the surgery is complete, while the anesthesia wears off enough that you can go home.
Result
You can look forward to a more appealing facial shape, attractively sculpted cheeks, and a more symmetrical face. Dr. Nguyen customizes each treatment according to the patient's goals, so the results are unique for each person. In female patients, the cheeks are often sculpted to create a soft, feminine facial shape. Male patients typically prefer moderate reduction, bringing the cheeks into harmony with the face, while creating or maintain an attractively masculine facial shape. Similarly, most ethnic patients wish to retain and enhance their cultural features. The doctor uses artisan skill and advanced techniques to bring out the natural beauty of Asian features by bringing harmony and subtle definition to the face.
